RADIOLOGY-Planning News

One of the challenges our firm faced when we were identified as “MRI-Planning” was that sometimes we weren’t thought of as architects for all of radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy. In fact, the technical, clinical and operational expertise that was the foundation of our reputation in MRI has all sorts of other applications that work to the benefit of our clients and partners.

In this issue’s project list we’re specifically showcasing a few projects that demonstrate the breadth of our experiences and expertise, the foundations of which all illustrate our core competencies in radiology / imaging / therapy spaces and how those skills can be applied more broadly than you might have thought…

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Suite:

While working on a 5-magnet MRI project, a client asked us if we could also assist them with the conversion of an outpatient clinic area into a hyperbaric chamber for their wound care mission. The project involves the shoe-horning of a large piece of equipment into a room that’s not-quite-big-enough (OK, that sounds like radiology), reviewing and adapting life-safety provisions of the building (that’s similar to radiology, too), bringing special infrastructure - such as piped-in oxygen and pressure relief panels – to the new suite.

nMR Laboratory Retrofit:

On a crowded university campus, a to-be-relocated nMR lab has been given four-times their current size! The catch is that they have to fit twelve separate million-dollar nMR instruments (including one that isn’t even in production yet) in an abandoned subterranean parking garage that is squeezed between four existing hospital / research buildings with a vehicle plaza above! The most sensitive of these magnets can’t tolerate ambient magnetic field fluctuations of greater than one-half of one-thousandth of a gauss! RAD-Planning’s mission has been to assist in the technical siting of these magnets to minimize interferences and allow the entire project to be designed and built in a break-neck 13 month period!

Replacement Hospital Feasibility Study:

A longstanding client has been wrestling for years with decisions about whether it was better to keep patching-up their aging hospital, or replace it with an altogether new facility. Our projects, such as the hospital system’s first PET/CT suite, helped the client see successes (in a smaller scale project) in which we assessed never-before-met needs and developed operational and physical designs that translated into very effective equipment, suite and departmental projects. Building on those successes, RAD-Planning is applying those skills on the planning for an entirely new hospital to become the basis for planning budgets and clinical services.

These projects illustrate how our imaging experiences are effectively leveraged to help our clients and project partners develop superior therapy, research and technical facilities. Whether it’s just one piece of equipment, or an entirely new hospital, RAD-Planning has the knowledge and expertise to assist you.
